Introduction

Gallery 3 consist of three parts: www.gallery3.com our virtual window, Gallery 3 Co-Op, our real window, and working studios. Located at 2101 Winter Street, Houston, an old warehouse that is now a thriving art colony of over 80 artist, we are located downstairs on the east end of the building.

Frequent Questions

  1. How many Members will be recruited?

    There will be only 15 full members at any one time broken down into three groups: seven wall artist and four studio artist, and four 3d artist We are presently 3 wall, one 3d, and 2 studio.
  2. Will there be some one on duly each open day?

    Yes, one of the 3 featured artists for each of the six weeks open house will assume hosting duties and I, Robert Derr, director, will be present the open afternoons of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Until 5:30. All members will be present for Open House and studios will be open and maned.
  3. Who will hang works?

    The vetting committee will curate and hang each show.
  4. Is there storage?

    Members will have access to an 8x8x10 storage unit.
  5. Transport?

    Each artist will assume transport to and from the Winter Street location. And, all work must be ready to hang from picture rails installed at 8 feet from the floor. No work will be hung from "nails" in the wall in order to protect the Venetian plaster.
  6. Is there an information news letter informing associates of up-coming events and the co-op's finances?

    Yes, I publish via the net reports every 6 weeks (the third report is due mid-March) on the progress of the build out and plans for up-coming events. Finances will be reviewed by a board of 5 members on a quarterly basis with a report to the full membership once a year. The year begins with the lease at the end of April 07.
  7. What bang do I get for my $200/month?

    As a full member whose membership dues are; $1200 non-refundable deposit* and $200/month with a commitment for 18 months, you will:
    1. Have access to from sixteen to twenty linear feet of wall or an equal amount of floor space for 3d work.
    2. Be one of the three featured artist during the six weeks rotation. (There will be two wall and one 3d for each show} Featured artist will have each one wall in the front gallery plus the wall immediately behind the entry wall for a total of 40 linear feet. Artist with studios will hang in their studios, the front gallery and on the back movable wall
    3. Have invitations printed out and distributed by each of the members. Have as much press coverage as is possible in the local Houston Press.
    4. Take part in open house events that will take place over three days and will be: Thursday by R.S.V.P. invitation only, Friday for the general public, and Saturday an event such as a lecture, or music, or brunch, or reading.
    5. And lastly, Full members will have access to studio space. There are besides the director's studio one 200sq. ft., one 400sg. ft. and one 600sq. ft. Studios will be available only to members and rented for a year at $.50/sq.ft.

There is a third category of participation. For a modest fee of $35/month this group will have access to the side gallery only. They will pay 50% commission instead of full member's 30%. They will not participate in co-op meetings. But when and if there are vacancies in membership, they will have first refusal.

* The membership dues can be paid out over the life of the contract and correspond to the budgeted build-out.
